WHY SHOULD I USE A PERSONAL TRAINER?
A personal trainer will help you to safely start and maintain an
effective exercise program. He will help you fit exercise into your busy
schedule and teach you how to make the most efficient use of your time. Your personal trainer will establish your fitness needs and goals and help you achieve them much more quickly than you ever would on your own.
HOW DO I FIND A TRAINER THAT'S RIGHT FOR ME?
Many people find a personal trainer through "word of mouth"
recommendations from friends and colleagues and this can be a good
referral but you need to be-aware. The title "personal trainer" does not guarantee that a person is qualified to do the job. At a minimum your trainer should be certified by a professionally recognized
association such as the ACSM or NSCA. These are two credible international associations have established high levels of competency for certification.
A degree in exercise science or a related field is a plus but not absolutely necessary. Number of years experience and the
types of clients they've worked with ought to be considered.
Your trainer should be a a good role model who practices what he or she preaches by keeping physically fit.
I HATE EXERCISE AND HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO STICK WITH IT?
Your personal trainer is aware that for many people exercise is a chore. It shouldn't be. He is specially trained to get people of all fitness levels into safe, effective and enjoyable exercise programs.
He will motivate and educate you on the benefits of making time to exercise and will ensure that you work at the appropriate intensity.
Rather than trying to do too much or too little on your own, your trainer will assess your level of fitness and develop an exercise programs that's right for you. In order to ensure that you never get bored, your program and progress will be reassessed to ensure that you are meeting your goals.
WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT ?
Within a short period of consistent training you will have more energy and less fatigue. You will also feel physically fitter, stronger and more self-confident. Over time your posture will improve and you will begin to feel and see a noticeable difference in how your body looks.
People hire personal trainers because they want results from their exercise program. But hiring a trainer is worthwhile only if you are willing to work at it.
Just showing up at the gym is not going to bring results. But you get highly rewarded for the effort you put in.
WHAT'S THE BEST EXERCISE FOR LOSING WEIGHT?
The traditional and most common exercise prescription for weight loss
is daily moderate intensity aerobic exercise.
While cardiovascular exercise such as using a treadmill or elliptical machine will burn calories and is good for your heart, it is NOT the most efficient exercise for long-term weight control.
Anaerobic exercise, like weight-training burns approx. five times more calories than aerobic exercise. It does this by raising your metabolic rate. Building muscle enhances your ability to lose weight by raising your BMR so that you burn more calories over the course of the day! This is not a theory but a physiological fact.
WILL MY TRAINER HELP ME WITH MY DIET?
To get the greatest benefit from your exercise program you need to
practice good nutrition. Most certified trainers are knowledgeable enough to give advice on diet and nutrition. However, clients with metabolic conditions such as diabetes and/or obesity may need to be referred to a dietician or nutritionist.
